Meet some of our people

Starting a new life in Berwick – for the second time

Daryl and Henny Hart moved to Berwick in 1985 and, even though they’ve seen the area develop from a rural town into one of Australia’s fastest growing regions, they still consider Berwick to be the ultimate place to live.

For that reason, when it came time to make the move to retirement living, the couple looked no further than what was available in their area. Thankfully, the couple found something that offered the benefits of both the right location and the right lifestyle.

“I knew I wanted to live at Woodlands Park the minute I drove in,” Daryl said.

“We always wanted to stay in Berwick so to find a retirement resort so close to us that offered all the benefits of being part of a community that was secure and welcoming was terrific.

“Berwick has certainly grown in leaps and bounds and it has changed significantly over the years. However we feel it still has the same village-style community atmosphere – it was what originally attracted us to the area and it’s what has kept us here.”

Daryl and Henny moved into Woodlands Park, one of Lend Lease Primelife’s premier retirement resorts, late last year. The couple are living temporarily in an existing villa while their own home, bought brand new off the plan, is completed.

“Construction is almost done and we’re hoping to move in some time in the next four weeks.  It’s wonderfully exciting and our official new start will happen just after my 70th birthday, so it will be cause for a huge celebration,” Daryl said.

“We immediately liked the fact that life at Woodlands Park offered us the freedom to lock up and go on holiday knowing that everything will be secure and the garden cared for. Our children were also really pleased – both that we made the decision to move when we did and that we were moving into such a great resort.

“We have both already well and truly settled into the community here. I play bowls four times a week, Henny plays cards with a group of people and we both attend Happy Hour on Friday nights – there’s a great community atmosphere.”

Woodlands Park is ideally located on Kangan Drive, Berwick, offering easy access to nearby shops, restaurants and natural attractions.

Residents – and family and friends – can make use of the outstanding variety of leisure and recreational facilities on offer, including a bowling green, gym, a library and billiards.

Residents knit for a cause

With decades of knitting experience between them, residents at Woodlands Park in Berwick have decided to put their skills to use for a good cause.

Residents at Woodlands Park have been busy knitting items for a range of charities including the Cancer Council, SANDS (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Support), Melbourne City Mission and the Guardian Angel Knitting Program.

Woodlands Park resident Ruth Russell said the group’s monthly meetings were a great chance to catch up with friends over a cup of coffee whilst also helping those in need.  “We’ve recently donated boxes of garments, including jumpers, scarves and beanies, to the Guardian Angel Knitting Appeal and SANDS and we’re currently knitting squares to make blankets for Melbourne City Mission, who pass them on to disadvantaged children and people who are homeless or disabled.  With the cold weather that we’ve had, there was a real demand over winter for knitted items,” Ruth said.  “I’ve been knitting since I was six years old and it’s great to be able to put my skills to good use.  We’re really pleased to be supporting these valuable organisations.”
