Roy and Patricia
For some the search for retirement living may extend across the country and take years of research. But for Roy and Patricia Redden their ideal retirement home was just minutes away, across the water.
The couple had lived and holidayed in the Jervis Bay area for years, so when their property became too unmanageable it seemed only natural that they move to nearby Coastal Waters Retirement Resort.
“Two of our good friends moved to Coastal Waters and they absolutely loved it, so when our house became too big and hard for us to manage I knew it was where I wanted to live,” Patricia said.
“Initially Roy wasn’t quite so sure - he thought he wouldn’t have enough to do - but the funny thing is he’s never been busier!”
Now, more than five years later, Roy and Patricia couldn’t be happier with their decision.
“It’s the best move we’ve ever made,” Patricia said.
“Roy and I both play golf two or three times a week and we also love playing bowls – there’s always plenty to do around the village and we have so many friends right on our doorstep.”
Situated on The Wool Road, Worrowing Heights, Primelife’s Coastal Waters Retirement Resort offers a lively, supportive community and close proximity to many natural attractions.
With spectacular views overlooking St Georges Basin, and a diverse range of leisure and recreational facilities on offer, the village provides the ultimate in retirement living.
“We like the fact that Coastal Waters gives us the option of being able to go away for the weekend without having to worry about security and who will look after the house and garden,” Patricia said.
“We went overseas for two months recently and we didn’t have to worry about a thing, when we returned our neighbours even had dinner waiting for us.
“We love maintaining the garden and growing our own veggie patch but here we have a choice, if we don’t want to we don’t have to – help is always available.”
“I love the Thai Chi classes and I’m also looking forward to the pool opening, but the best thing is you can decide when to be social and active or when you want your own space,” Patricia said.
“Our villa is so private sometimes we might not even see our neighbours for a week.”
Coastal Waters gives residents the choice of two and three bedroom Mediterranean-style villas, with modern and stylish floor plans designed to ensure comfort and spaciousness.
“We have a son and a daughter as well as eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren so it’s great to have the extra space in case they want to come and stay,” Patricia said.
“Some of our friends ask us how we can afford to live in a place like Coastal Waters, but when you sit down and think about all of the extras you’re getting and add up the costs of things like security, insurance and getting the garden done you realise you’re much better off.
"It gives us and our children peace of mind to know we’re secure and have a community of like-minded people around us.”

Model Boat Club
When several residents at Coastal Waters Retirement Resort discovered they had a common love for sailing they joined together to form the Coastal Waters Model Sailing Boat Club.
Now, more than four years later, the club has more than 14 member boats, all owned and raced by local residents.
The group gets together at the resort’s lake at least twice a week and also holds bi-annual regattas with sister club, Primelife Bayside.
The club’s members race Oceanus 60 boats, which are remote controlled and around 600mm in size. And, recently, the residents even created their own hull moulds so that in the future they can make new boats themselves, from scratch.
The club is about much more than just the racing for the residents – it’s a great chance to be social and catch up with friends. It’s also a great activity to take part in for those looking for a more gentle sport.
Coastal Waters Model Sailing Boat Club is just one of around 18 social and special interest clubs formed by residents at Coastal Waters – meaning there’s always something to do, no matter what your hobby.
