We have everything here in the village – our own bowling green, dining room, gymnasium. There’s actually not much of a reason to venture outside of the village. My wife and I run a regular Golden Times Melodies concert in the village auditorium and we get 100 people coming along to enjoy the oldie tunes and morning tea. It’s a lovely community.
For people our age it’s important not to feel isolated. Out in the suburbs you often don’t know your neighbour and if you do, they are too busy with their lives to take time out for a chat. At Carlyle Gardens Townsville there’s a true community of like-minded people who all care for each other. Whenever we return from a trip away, we always feel warmly welcomed and that we ‘belong’ here.
Over the years we’ve made some great friends in the village. I know that if anything happened to me, my husband would have a wonderful support network of residents here that he could turn to. That’s very reassuring for the both of us.
We are blessed to have our own medical centre here in the village. It’s so convenient to have a full time doctor close by and you don’t have the hassle of having to drive around when you are feeling ill. It’s also wonderful to attend social functions within the village and not have to worry about driving at night.
